About Me

Maureen Girard

My family started out in the Bronx. The NY metropolitan area was a wonderful place to grow up, a vibrant place rich in culture, education and a thriving Arts community. My family had ties to show business at the Ed Sullivan Theater, where my uncle, Eddie Lynch worked. Growing up, celebrities and show business people were both household names and customers of my dad's who worked across the street at a Cadillac Dealership. My mom worked as a model. Our family was part of show business glamour. I fell in love with the piano at an early age and began taking lessons in NY at the age of 6. I was very influenced by my uncle, who visited often and the excitement of the musical talent that was broadcast into our living room, from just a few mile away at the Ed Sullivan Theater.

When I was 14, our family moved to Las Vegas to be near our uncle, who had become the stage manager of Caesar's Palace.

Eddie spent his entire life in show business, beginning his career as a singer / dancer in vaudeville.

He later began working on the business side of show business in NY and eventually moved to Las Vegas working at Caesars Palace. I spent countless hours with him backstage as a teenager, where I met and heard some of the most iconic entertainers of all time such as Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, The Jackson Five, Ike and Tina Turner, Liberace and countless others. It was an incredible experience that influenced and shaped my life and my career. I began a performing career at the age of 20, playing in night clubs and on ships. I relentlessly perused my goal to become a professional. After auditioning for a job to play on board a cruise ship to Alaska, I won the audition...but the ship turned out to be an expedition to the Northwest Passage in the High Arctic. It was a perilous adventure to a place where many who'd gone before, never returned.

I was so excited at the time, that I really didn't have any idea of where I was actually going. Our ship got stuck in the sea ice and I wound up having to make a secret escape from an Eskimo village! My journey to become a pianist was one of courage and reinvention. .."The Arctic Sonata!"

After my long performing career, I became a professional teacher which has been an extremely rewarding part of my career.

I attended both Willamette University, where I was awarded a talent scholarship and later, Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle. I completed studies in both classical and jazz studies. I am a past president of both the local chapter of the WA State Music Teacher's Association and the South Whidbey Association of Jazz Educators. I have had a long relationship with Whidbey Island Center for the Arts, being the first artist to perform there in their opening gala performance and later, having my own show, The 88 Keys Piano Club presented there. We are now planning a book launching / performance event which will be announced soon!

I have played in and produced many concerts with such outstanding artists as David Lanz, the late Jessica Williams, Louis Landon, Andre Feriante, Claudio Mendez, Karin Kajita, Brian Kirk, Clipper Anderson, Troy Chapman and many other notable musicians. I have often included a "student showcase" performance in my concerts whenever possible to offer outstanding students, a performance opportunity with excellence as the standard.
